Baseball Drops Three in a Row in Waco

Texas State dropped its third straight game on Sunday to the Aggies of Texas A&M, only managing to score 2 runs in the 6-2 loss. The Bobcats came into the game hungry after losing 4-3 to Western Kentucky the day before, and to Baylor 3-2 the day before that. They were the only Texas team in the QTI Classic not to win a single game.

On Sunday Coach Ty Harrington gave pitcher Brain Borksi the ball to start the game. The Aggies jumped on him early in the 2nd inning, as the Aggie 1st baseman hit a two run blast to give them the early lead. In the top of the 3rd third things looked promising for the 'Cats when Tyler Sibley, the former outfielder now second baseman for the Cats, cranked a double off the left field wall. However the Bobcats could not bring him around to put them on the board. Leaving men on base seemed to be a common theme for Texas State as they left 7 men on base and they left 4 men in scoring position.

In the bottom of the third the Aggies scored again on a sacrifice fly, giving them a 3-0 lead heading into the middle innings. The Bobcats finally got on the board in the 5th when Sibley hit a single to score Andrew Stumph. That was Sibley’s final hit for the day, however he did go 3 for 4, and was named to the all-tournament team. Brian Borski held the Aggies scoreless through the middle innings, and the offense allowed the Cats to make it very close when Kyle Livingston hit a solo homerun in the 6th to make the game 3-2.

In the later innings though the Aggies started to slip away after Kevin Gonzales hit a single shot homerun in the 7th to make the A&M lead 4-2. In the 8th, Mitchell Pitts came in for the relief of Borski who went 7 innings gave up 4 runs and struck out 4. Pitts came in looking to stop the bleeding, and give the Cats a shot in the 9th. However, he opened the wound more by giving up 2 more runs. In the 9th Texas State left one man on, and were unable to do anything. The Bobcats are now 3-3 on the season, and host Rice on Wednesday, March the 3rd at 6:30 PM. You can listen to the game live on Stretch Internet at txstatebobcats.com. The pregame show will start at 6:15.
