Texas State Football Loses Big to UCA at Home

I don't know which was more sad to watch: this afternoon's Bobcat football game, or "The Notebook." Either way, there were crying girls, even crying guys in the stands on Saturday as the Bobcat faithful bid farewell to the 14 Seniors after a 49-17 loss to the University of Central Arkansas.

Those seniors, playing in their last home game, would fall a little short of a win - okay a lot short of a win - but the effort was there for the entire game, and the fight and the drive were, as well. The game, however, was out of hand almost immediately.

The Central Arkansas Bears scored on their first 6 drives. Yes, 6. All Touchdowns. The Bobcats only amassed a field goal in the first half, so what might have become an even bigger comeback than the KU over Colorado travesty earlier in the day, was not to be.

The 'Cats did score twice in the second half on two fine passes by quarterback Tim Hawkins, one to junior wide receiver Daren Dillard and one to senior wide receiver Da'Marcus Griggs, but it was too little, too late. Central Arkansas came out with authority and never let up. It almost seemed at times that the Bobcats had no chance; every play the Bears ran, worked. Head coach Brad Wright looked befuddled and almost lost after the game, and said he thought the team had a good game plan and a good week of practices, but he couldn't answer the question of "How in the...?" A few times during the game, Texas State players became emotion, almost angry. When getting yelled at by coaches, some players chirped back, a couple of cramps on the sidelines had one linebacker yelling, and even coach Wright after the game going after a fan who apparently had something unpleasant to say. That particular student came onto the field and proceeded to get a-yellin' at like they played safety for the Bobcats today.

Either way, the Bobcats took this one on the chin. Two more games to go and both are on the road. Might be tough-sledding for the 'Cats from here on out.
