Demons Terrorize Bobcats in Game Three

Errors and miscommunication in the infield doomed the Bobcat baseball team as they dropped game 3 of the series 8-0 against the Northwestern State Demons after winning the previous two.

Things looked great in the beginning as center fielder Laurn Randell led off in the bottom of the first with a single right up the middle, but that was his only hit of the day as Randall went 1 for 4 with two strikeouts. Bobcat starting pitcher Brian Borski didn’t fare much better as he lasted only 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and 3 runs and walking three. A pickoff attempt to first from Borski to Livingstone went wide as runners advanced into scoring position. Both eventually came around to score.

At the end of the day the Bobcats committed four errors. This was ironic however because it was the Demons who had committed numerous errors in the two games before. Fielding Pittman came in relief for Borski in the third inning and was surprisingly pulled out only after a inning and a third of work; not even giving up a hit. The bobcats went on to use four more pitchers in the game; the bullpen gave up 5 runs. On the Demons' side, lead off hitter Eric DeBlanc was a thorn in the side of the Bobcats when he got on base. DeBlanc went three for four and reaching base all four at bats and scoring two of the Demons’ eight runs.

The story of the game was the dominating pitching performance by the NSU pitching staff. Starter Andrew Adams went six innings giving up a sparse 4 hits and walking two. Reliever Chad Sheppard followed his domination with three innings of work and only giving up one hit and striking out 3.

Texas State drops to 24-14 on the season and 15-6 in conference play, but still maintaining the number one spot in the southland conference. The Bobcats will take on Houston Baptist this Tuesday here in San Marcos before resuming conference play with a three game series against the UTSA Roadrunners. The HBU game will be aired on Stretch Internet at txstatebobcats.com.
