Texas State women’s basketball dominated the Huston-Tillotson Lady Rams in every aspect of the game on Monday night at Strahan Coliseum with a 105-65 victory. Five players scored in double figures and the point total scored by the Bobcats is the highest amount posted by any Southland Conference team this season.
Leading the way in scoring was Senior Chika Ofoegbu with 17 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Diamond Ford was close behind her with 16 points and has scored 15 points or more in six of the last eight games. Ashley Shoemaker added 13 points along with Ashley Ezeh’s 12, while Kelsey Krupa also chipped in with eleven points and a solid defensive performance.
Texas State got off to a strong start in the contest by taking advantage of their size and really pounding the ball down low in the post early on. The Bobcats went on a lengthy run that was capped off by an Ashley Shoemaker three-point basket at the buzzer which gave them a lot of momentum going into halftime.
The start of the second half went back and forth as both teams traded baskets until Texas State went full-throttle on a 10-to-nothing run that expanded the lead to 74-45 with a little less than ten minutes left in the game. The Bobcats shot a season best 58 percent from the field and also out-rebounded the Lady Rams 50-21.
Texas State moves to 5-8 on the year, and this game marks the last non-conference opponent that the Bobcats will face before opening Southland Conference play against Northwestern State University on Jan. 8 in Natchitoches, La.
