Cowgirls Rope Bobcats in Run-Rule Blowout

The Texas State Bobcat softball team came into the game on Saturday feeling very confident after handing the Northern Illinois Huskies a loss on Friday behind the arm of Chandler Hall. However, The Cowgirls of Oklahoma State were looking to spoil the party and did with a 10-0 shutout in 5 innings over Texas State. The Bobcats were only able to muster up one hit in the run-rule decision.

Bobcat star pitcher Chandler Hall who pitched a complete game shutout on Friday started the game against the Cowgirls. However the OSU offense was too much for her as she gave up an early 3 run home run to Alysia Hamilton, putting the Cowgirls up 3-0. After her at bat, Hall gave up another solo home run to Julie Ward the first baseman for Oklahoma State making the score 4-0 at the end of the first inning.

The Bobcat offense just couldn’t get anything going after that disatorous inning, asthey went 3 up, 3 down in the top of the second. In the bottom of the 2nd inning the Cowgirls struck again when Mariah Gearhart got a base hit scoring Chelsea Garcia, and then Alysia Hamilton hit into a fielder’s choice to score Kelsey Anchors.

In the top of the 3rd freshman sensation Anna Hernandez showed some life for the Cats as she reached 2nd base on a throwing error by Mariah Gearhart the 3rd baseman for the Cowgirls. However, nothing was to come of it as the Bobcats went 3 up 3 down after Hernandez. In the bottom of the 3rd the Bobcats finally stopped the Cowgirls, giving up no runs in that half of the inning.

In the top of the fourth the Bobcats finally got their first hit on Ok State pitcher Anna Whiddon who until that time had been throwing a no-hitter. Haley Lemons stepped up and slapped a bloop base hit into left field, but once again nothing was to come of it. The Cowgirls finally slammed the door shut on the Bobcats in the bottom of the fourth, as Alysia Hamilton hit her second home run of the day on a solo shot. Libby Dennis came into the game to replace Chandler Hall, but it was too late as Taylor Marcum hit a 2 run double to make the score nine to nothing. Katelyn Bright then followed up with a sacrifice fly to score Julie Ward. That made the score 10 to nothing, and that is what the score remained.

The Bobcats were run ruled after five innings, bringing an end to the first game the Bobcats played that day. With the loss the Bobcats fell to 1-1 on the season and Oklahoma State improved to 3-0 on the year.
