Tennis Volleys to Get Win on Sunday

The Texas State Bobcats defeated the Mcneese State Cowgirls 6-1 on Saturday making them 2-2 in conference play.

The Cats started off the day by sweeping all three of the doubles matches. Once again leading the way was the veteran team of Lainy Chafitz and Andrea Giraldo as they won (8-2).The team of Mckenzie Farmer and Kiki Kruse also proved to be to much for their opponents as they won (8-4).The team of Nyssa Peele and Ashley Ellis rallied back after being down 6-1 to win their match 7-2 in a tiebreaker giving the Bobcats the sweep.

In singles play Ashley Ellis defeated her opponent (6-1) (6-3) proving once again why she is one the top players on the squad. Andrea Giraldo won her first set (6-2), but had to battle in the second set to get the win (6-3). Lainy Chafitz Captain of the Bobcats proved why she is the leader of the squad as she beat her opponent (6-1) (6-3)

Nyssa Peele battled throughout her match, but couldn’t quite get the job done. Peele rallied from behind in the first match, but was unable to defeat her opponent in a tiebreak losing (7-6). In the second match Peele continued to battle, but was unable to seal the victory as she lost (6-4).

Kiki Kruse continued her dominance in conference play as she defeated her opponent (6-0) (6-3) making her 4-0 in conference play thus far this season.

Mckenzie Farmer started off slow as she lost (6-4) in her first set. Farmer came out strong in the second set winning (6-3) taking the match to a third set where she defeated her opponent in a tiebreak (10-8).
