Texas State was unable to get the series sweep on Sunday as they were defeated in a close game 7-4 against the Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin. The Bobcats however did win the series 2-1 as they run ruled the Jacks 10-0 on Saturday and defeated them on Friday 7-4.
The Bobcats jumped on the Jacks early as lead-off man Tyler Sibley was hit by a pitch, and proceeded to steal second. Then Paul Goldschmidt walked and stole second as he and Sibley pulled off the double steal. Kyle Livingstone then came up to bat and hit a double in the gap to left field scoring Sibley and Goldschmidt.
In the second inning though the Jacks got those 2 runs back as Brian Borski, who started for the Cats, struck out Justin Long for the first out of the inning. He then gave up 2 singles to Brian Ferguson and Jeffrey Kello who eventually scored on a single from Zach Gardner.
In the bottom half of the second inning Laurn Randall hit a single and then scored when Tyler Sibley hit a triple to left field to take the lead.
In the third Borski shut down the Jacks, striking out 2 and getting Bo Coffman to strike out to end the inning.
The Cats continued to score in the third as Paul Goldschmidt led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kyle Kubitza; which ended the day for Lumberjack starter Jared Schrom.
Brian Borski shut down the Jacks through the fourth and fifth innings going three up and three down.
In the sixth inning the Jacks got revenge as Sean Meyers led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by Brian Ferguson. Jeffrey Kello singled right after that to put him on base for Joe Staley. Staley then proceeded to hit a three run homerun to give the Jack the lead and ending Borski’s day.
The Bobcat offense was unable to rally and score after the sixth inning as Lumberjack pitchers Chris Court, Alex Moshier, and Richard Folmer shutdown Bobcat Batters the rest of the game.
The Jacks scored one more run in the top of the ninth to give them a 7-4 lead which they would hold on to giving them the victory.
The Bobcats record goes to 8-4 in Conference play and 16-9 overall. The Lumberjacks go to 3-7 in conference play and 8-16 overall. The Bobcats will take on the Baylor Bears on Tuesday in Waco. The Bobcats will be looking to knock off another Big 12 program.
