The Bobcats defeated the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Friday night with a final score of 7-4. This was the first game of the 3 game series the Bobcats are hosting against the Lumberjacks this weekend. The Bobcats currently stand 7-3 in the SLC conference while the Lumberjacks are 2-7.
The Lumberjacks were the first to score with an RBI groundout by SFA third baseman Sean Meyers. However the Bobcats answered right back at the bottom of the first with 3 runs. Leading the Bobcat offense to a victory was Spenser Dennis, who was 3 for 4 with a single RBI. After making four runs at the bottom of the third inning, the Bobcats were unable to score the remainder of the game. The Lumberjacks made a brief comeback at the top of the fourth inning with one run and 2 runs at the top of the fifth with Lumberjack Jefferey Kello hitting a home run into left field bringing in 2 runs.
The widley anticipated Lumberjack pitching was a let down at the game with starting pitcher Erik Gregersen only pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 5 walks. Zack Taylor pitched the longest for the Lumberjacks with 3.1 innings and allowing only 1 walk. Travis Herrelson and Alex Moshier also pitched for the Lumberjacks in Friday's game.
Kane Hoolbrooks was able to keep a steady hand and a cool head with pitching 8 innings, earning him the win. Hoolbrooks is now 5-0 for this season, and is a force to be reckoned with this season in the SLC Conference. The Bobcats will continue the Lumberjack series tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game at Bobcat Field.
