Texas State Tennis hosted St. Edwards in the first home match of the season. The Bobcats were victorious with a 5-2 overall victory. The Cats opened up the day with dominating doubles play winning 2 out of 3 sets to get the point. They were lead by the veteran team of Nyssa Peele and Ashley Ellis.
In singles play the Bobcats also had a very commanding performance of St. Edwards. Senior Captain Lainy Chafitz demanded respect as she took control of her match, and won 6-1 and 6-4 in two sets.
Senior Ashley Ellis had a very exciting match as well she controlled the first set with a 6-2 victory. The second set she allowed St. Edwards to climb back with a tough loss. Ashley’s veteran experience came out in the third set as she won a 9-7 tie-break in an exciting match that was played tough until the bitter end.
The disappointing match of the day was Andrea Giraldo who is number two for the Bobcats. Giraldo played a very tough St. Edwards opponent, and was unable to get the victory that she was hoping for. Her experience helped her along the way as she never quit battling until the very end.
Texas State hosts UT Pan-American in their next match February 14, 2009. The Cats are looking forward to another chance for victory.
