The Bobcat softball team stormed over the UT Longhorns Wednesday night in Austin with a 9-6 victory proving that even a Big 12 school is no match for the Bobcats.
In the beginning of the game, the path to victory looked a little rough for the Bobcats. Bobcat Katie Garnet pitched a tough game, but the Longhorns were the first to score in the 1st inning with two points. The Bobcats scored 1 run in the 3rd inning proving they weren’t going to step down anytime soon.
The 5th inning was a setback for the Bobcats with 3 consecutive strike outs by the Longhorns pitcher Torrey Schroeder. The Longhorns scored two runs in the 5th when Desire Williams slammed a single down center.
The Bobcats answered back in the top of the 6th by scoring two runs. The Longhorns switched pitchers putting in Erin Tresselt who walked two Bobcats. At the bottom of the 6th the Longhorns scored 3 runs taking a 3 run lead over the Bobcats.
The 7th inning was the key inning for the Bobcats when they scored 6 runs. The Longhorns switched pitchers 3 times and the Bobcat offense was fierce with Kristina Tello and Alex Newton both hitting doubles. The Bobcats were able to hold the Longhorns at the bottom of the 7th resulting in a final score of 9-6.
The Bobcats proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. With a strong defense and offense the Bobcats will be making many upsets this season. The Bobcats will play in the UH Crown Plaza tournament in Houston this Friday through Sunday where they will face Oklahoma, Indiana, Oklahoma State and Houston.
