Bobcats Grab Game 3, Series Sweep vs. Penn State in Bottom 9th

The Bobcats came into Sunday’s morning game with a 2 games to none lead against Penn State, and they prevailed in a 5-4 late-inning win. This weekends sweep has improved Texas State to 8-6 overall and are still 2-1 in conference. Starting for Texas State on the mound was (junior) Lee Colon who pitched seven straight innings. Colon rationed Penn State only three hits and two runs, one of which was earned. The junior also struck out a career-high eight batters in the no-decision.

This was only the second time of the season that Colon has started during a weekend series on Sunday. Last week Colon had six strike outs and earned the win against the Islanders in an ending score of 13-8. This Sunday afternoon’s game played out different from Friday and Saturday’s in earned runs for both teams. The Bobcats scored early within the first 3 innings with about 5 to 6 runs and Penn State fell behind. Regardless of how hard the Nittany Lions tried to come back with runs, Texas State’s defense made sure to keep them at a scoring distance.

Today’s batting line up started off with (sophomore) Tyler Sibley and ending with (RS Senior) Laurn Randell. Coach Ty Harrington has been changing the batting line up throughout the season and has mentioned that he’s going to keep it up and play his best batters when necessary. In the top of the third, an RBI single from Jordan Steranka gave PSU its first run, and gave up a fly in the fifth allowed them the first tie of the game.

A key player for the Bobcats was (senior) Kyle Livingston who went 3-for-3 and has improved his batting average to 375. Shaun Garcia won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a sacrifice fly to center field. Carson smith recorded the win for the game after giving up 2 runs to Penn State in the top of the ninth allowing them to tie the game at 4 – 4. The win is Carson’s first win of the season.

Texas State will be heading to Lubbock on Tuesday to face Texas Tech at 6:30 p.m. This upcoming weekend the Bobcats will also head off to play against rival Sam Houston State in Huntsville. You can check the Texas Tech and Sam Houston State websites for radio information.
