Bobcat Softball Clinches Another Win in the SLC
Texas State University pitcher Chandler Hall hit a walk-off double for the Bobcats, giving them a 4-3 comeback win over Texas A&M University Corpus-Christi on Saturday evening.
Despite the 40 degree weather and 38mph winds, Texas State pulled through to gain their 12th win for the season. In the first couple of innings it seemed to look like Texas State was not making any progress out onto the field at all; Chandler was having trouble with her pitching, Kristina Tello had no action what-so-ever in the outfield, and Anna Hernandez was not getting any hits. The score at that time was 3-0, Islanders. TAMUCC took the lead over the Bobcats in the 3rd and 5th innings and it seemed like trouble was heading towards Texas State.
Coach Woodard noticed that her team wasn't getting the work done so she decided to switch up the pitching. She brought in Anne Marie Taylor for two innings to shake things up. Taylor kept it consistent with the ball during the time she was out on the mound , but Coach Woodard wasn't quite done with her plans of stategy just yet. Chandler Hall was later put back onto the mound and pitch the rest of the game for the Bobcats.
On the other end, TAMUCC had some tough players on the field as well. First baseman Megan Mckinney played a strong defense against Texas State and also made 1 run for the Islanders. 2nd baseman Cayley Jeter also did a good job out on the field, but it was not strong enough to make it past the Bobcats. During the 6th inning Tx State came back into the game and scored 3 runs in a row, making it a tie game. At the top of the 7th the Islanders tried to win the game over, but lead pitcher Hall put a stop to that with her quick 3 strike outs. With the final remainder of the game Chandler Hall hit the ball into the center outfield almost making an out, but center fielder Cassie Redman missed the ball as it flew over her. After that the game was over. Bobcats win.
Texas State will take on the Islanders in a Sunday doubleheader starting at noon. You can listen live on Stretch Internet at txstatebobcats.com, pregame starts at 11:45.
