The Rice women's basketball team came in to the friendly confines of Strahan Coliseum and ran the Bobcats out of the gym Thursday night, cruising to a 97-50 win.
From the early going, Texas State struggled to get any mojo on offense or defense. The Bobcats shot just 19 percent from the field in the first half, and just over 20 percent for the entire game. Rice outscored Texas State 40-10 in the paint.
Leading the way for Rice offensively and defensively was star freshman Jessica Kuster, who had a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds. She has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Week three of the last four weeks, and looks to be well on her way to that honor once again.
Just about the only bright spot for the Bobcats was the second half play from freshman post Ashley Ezeh. She scored all of her team high eleven points in the second period.
With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 4-8 on the season, and eagerly await the start of conference play. Texas State takes on Houston-Tillotson on Jan. 3. You can hear the call on KTSW 89.9 FM, with tip-off scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
