Texas State Women's Hoops Drops Second Straight

Texas State women's basketball played a defensively sound game against a tall and lanky Jackson State squad on Saturday but lost 62-41. In front of a a good crowd at Strahan Coliseum, the Bobcats held strong in the first half, only trailing at the break 21-17.

The first half of play featured many turnovers by both teams, a mix of good defense and rebounding and sloppy traveling calls on offense. The second half was a different story for the Bobcats as they struggled to get anything going offensively.

Texas State forced 25 turnovers, but only managed to get 16 points off of those Tiger giveaways. Another big disappointment was the offensive production from their two leading returning scorers from last year, as Diamond Ford and Kelsey Krupa combined to score only two total points. Leading the way for the Bobcats was Verinus Kalu with ten points, the only Bobcat to score in double figures.

For the Tigers, they were lead by Biatrice Banks and her five three-point baskets. Rachel Jones kicked in 13 points to go along with seven rebounds for Jackson State. Texas State returns to action Wednesday as they travel to Boulder, Colorado, to take on a Big 12 opponent in the Colorado Buffaloes.
