Texas State Softball Run-Rules Nicholls State in Game 1 of Doubleheader

The Texas State softball team routed the Nicholls State Colonels on Saturday, 8-0. Leah Boatright came through big for the team; counting for 5 of the teams 8 total RBIs. Boatright got it going in the first inning with a towering three run homerun over the left center wall. Anna Hernandez and Haley Lemons counted for two of those runs, reaching base via walks by Nicholls State pitcher Lacey Gros.

Boatright continued her domination into the third inning. Both Kristina Tello and Anna Hernandez reached base again because of walks. Haley Lemons, using a sacrifice bunt, moved Tello and Hernandez into scoring positions. Boatright made her presence felt again clearing the bases, bringing in Tello and Hernandez. Chandler Hall turned in yet another dominating performance, going 5 innings and only giving up 1 hit and zero earned runs. In the sixth inning, the Bobcats scored some more runs leading to the eventual leading to run rule the Colonels. There was nothing but celebration and ecstatic cheers coming from the stands and from the dugout of the bobcats after the dominating performance.

Looking over at the Colonels sideline, the mood was somber and dissatisfied looks were in abundance. Besides Boatright’s dominating performance, the play of the role players made such a huge difference in their win. Anna Hernandez’s plate discipline was second to none. Of the nine pitches thrown to Hernandez in the game, eight of them were balls; putting her in a position to score runs. Watching the bobcats pre-game and warm up, I wasn’t too sure of how well the bobcats were going to perform in this game. They were making some major throwing errors and etc. They pulled a complete 180 from the word go in the game and never looked back. It was an amazing TEAM victory; nothing but solid defense, offense, and pitching.
