Wide Receiver Mishak Rivas Leaving Texas State, May Be Transferring to A&M - Kingsville

KTSW has learned that sophomore wide receiver Mishak Rivas is no longer enrolled at Texas State. A report from Action 4 News out of the Rio Grande Valley originally broke the news that Rivas was unhappy at Texas State, and KTSW has confirmed through the Texas State athletic department that he is no longer enrolled here. The Action 4 news report states that Rivas cited former Bobcat offensive coordinator Travis Bush leaving for UTSA as well as reduced playing time as his reasons for leaving. The former Weslaco High School star is reportedly looking to transfer to Texas State's main rival during their Division II days, Texas A&M - Kingsville.

During his true freshman season in San Marcos in 2008, Rivas was second on the team in receiving yards (625) behind Cameron Luke. He also scored three touchdowns and averaged 48 yards per game. He came into his sophomore season hyped as one of the strongest returning receivers for the 'Cats, but he suffered an injury against Angelo State and his production fell significantly. In 2009, Rivas finished with only 276 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in 9 games played and was bypassed by DeMarcus Griggs and Darren Dillard as the main weapons at wideout for the Bobcats.

The Texas State athletic department declined to comment any further than a confirmation of his departure from the program.
