Texas State Football Co-Offensive Coordinator Travis Bush Leaves for UTSA

Texas State Co-Offensive coordinator and QB coach Travis Bush has a new job, but it's not outside of the I-35 corridor. On Wednesday, January 20th, news broke on the official UTSA website that Bush was to be hired as the new offensive coordinator for the Roadrunners. Bush, a graduate of Texas State, presided over the 12th-ranked total offense in all of NCAA Division 1-aa (FCS) in 2009 and the 5th-ranked total offense in 2008 while with the Bobcats.

UTSA, who will not field a team until September 2011, made national headlines by hiring big name head coach Larry Coker, who won a national championship at the University of Miami but was later dismissed for a string of mediocre seasons. Coker described Bush as "an innovative offensive mind" and "an excellent communicator with student-athletes" in yesterday's announcement. Bush also said during yesterday's announcement that "I’m excited about the chance to work for Coach Coker and to be a part of the amazing staff he’s already put together."

Bobcat head coach Brad Wright told KTSW through Texas State's sports information department that Bush's move "is good for him and his family."

The Texas State offense will be without their celebrated quarterback and Southland Conference Player of the Year in Bradley George next season, and will likely be breaking in redshirt freshman Tim Hawkins as the starter. Now, with Bush leaving, the task of maintaining such outstanding production by the offense just got that much tougher.
