Women’s Basketball Team Suffers Crushing Defeat to the University of Louisiana-Monroe

It was a heart wrenching loss for the Bobcats tonight, as they fell short to the Lady Warhawks 48-54. Texas State had high expectations after their blow-out victory over Texas College last week, but the Lady Bobcats did not have the same fate tonight. Louisiana-Monroe pounced on the Bobcats early as they came playing extremely aggressive straight from the tip off. The 'Cats were also incredibly physical and it was rough game with lots of physical contact and perhaps a few minor injuries. The Warhawks played intensely from start to finish; they never let their aggression die down. As a result, the Bobcats trailed the Warhawks for the entire game, never taking the lead.

Although Texas State continued to battle the whole game, their efforts just were not enough to over power UL-Monroe offense. Early in the first quarter Monroe proved how aggressive and physical the team was. In fact, Elizabeth Torres had 3 fouls alone within the first few minutes of play. But even Coach Fox said in the post-game she pleased with her teams efforts to fight back, “They never quit clawing back the entire time, that is a good thing.”

The Warhawks immediately showed off their strongest assets of rebounding and boxing out against their opponent. ULM crashed the backboard every time the ball was shot coming up with a total of 47 rebounds, 17 of which were offensive. Even Coach Fox said during the post-game interview that it is hard to win a game when you are out-rebounded by that much.

Louisiana-Monroe also ran a very fast paced game because the squad is full of athletes, and most are capable of exerting great amounts of quickness. If given the opportunity, they would fast-break on the Bobcats keeping them off guard and giving them no time to set up their defense. But along with quick, fast-paced aggression came sloppiness. That sloppiness resulted in repeated traveling violations and unnecessary fouls, but unfortunately Texas State was not able to capitalize on their errors. The Bobcats were not only out-rebounded they were also out scored, most noticeably at the free-throw line. Texas State ended up losing by six points, and left nine points in missed free throw shots. Coach Fox and Kelsey Krupa both agreed that the team will most certainly be practicing their free throw shots before the next match.

The Bobcats will prepare to play Southwest Assemblies of God on Nov. 23rd at 7:00 pm, you can listen to live coverage on 89.9 FM KTSW, ktsw.net and txstatebobcats.com.
