Cardinals Too Much For Cats

Texas State lost a close match on Saturday to the Lady Cardinals of Lamar. The Bobcats came into the game 1-1 in conference play, and were looking to get some revenge. The Cardinals beat the Cats 6-1 in a match last season during conference play.

The Cats started off the day winning two of the three doubles matches leading the way for the Cats was the team of Lainy Chafitz and Andrea Giraldo winning 8-3. Then Mckenzie Farmer and Kiki Kruse won 8-4 sealing the deal in doubles play.

Texas State had a tough day in singles play winning only two out of the six singles matches. Senior leader Lainy Chafitz lost (6-3) (6-0) to a tough Cardinal opponent. In the number one spot Sr. Ashley Ellis lost (6-3) (6-0) in a hard fought match. Jr. Andrea Giraldo lost in the first set (6-3). In the second set Giraldo started to rally, but it was not enough as she fell (6-4).

Kiki Kruse was the winner of one of the Bobcat single matches as she put on a great show defeating her opponent (6-1) (6-1) in two sets. Mckenzie Farmer battled back after losing in her first set (6-2) to win two sets in a row (6-3) (6-2) defeating her opponent. Junior Nyssa Peele played a really hard fought match. After losing in her first set (6-4) Peele took her opponent to a tiebreaker in the second, but was unable to pull off the victory as she lost (7-5).

With the loss to Lamar the Bobcats drop to (1-2) in conference play and (4-4) overall. The Cats look to improve their conference record on Sunday against Mcneese State.
