Tennis Team Shows Off Talent At Friendly Maroon/Gold Match

The Texas State Bobcat Women’s Tennis show cased some of their talent on Saturday in the first annual maroon and gold match. The atmosphere was relaxing as players, parents and alumni got ready for a friendly match versus new and old Bobcats.

The day started off with the Cats squaring off against some of their alumni. Since the matches were scrimmages the players only played one game. The day was labeled to be a friendly match, but the players were playing like it was a championship.

The single match of the day pitted number one Ashley Ellis against number two Andrea Giraldo. Both girls are veteran players and are the top players for a reason. During their match they had multiple rallies that were very exciting. The team captain Senior Lainy Chafitz also put a display of great skill and style.

This year’s team is looking forward to a very successful season and has high hopes of winning the first conference championship since the eighties. The Bobcats are gearing up for three weeks of home matches starting with St. Edwards on the 12th, and are looking to get a win after their tough loss against Rice.

The Woman's Tennis team opens up Conference play against Northwestern State in Louisiana on February 28. That match looks like it could be the toughest of the season for the Cats.
