Men's Hoops Drops Second Game In A Row

The Texas State Men’s Basketball team was at home Wednesday night to take on the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders. Texas State had a lead going into half time 34-32, but it seemed as if it fell apart for the Bobcats in the second half losing to the Islanders 70-59.

Texas State came out ready to play in the first half. The Bobcats were immediately dunked on, but Junior Forward John Rybak answered back with a wide open three pointer. It was pretty much back and forth in the first half with Texas State leading in every category except free throws, which seems to be a trend for the Cats. Brandon bush hit a three-point shot with 8:20 left in the half; the Cats looked great. Texas State shot 52% from the field with Corpus Christi only shooting 36%.

It seemed as if Texas State was really trying to show the hustle in the first half, but it happened again with the Bobcats getting outplayed in the second half. The second half was filled with fouls and great free throw shooting by the islanders as they finished the half at 77%. The Cats were out hustled in the game all together. A&M Corpus Christi had four dunks in the game with three of them coming in the first half alone.

The game was tied at 53 all with 6:23 left to go in the half, and the Islanders never looked back. There were some bad fouls after that which could have given the Bobcats a chance to come back, but the Cats could not manage to score late in the game . Coach Davalos got a technical and John Bowman committed a personal foul, and that would be all she wrote for the Bobcats losing to the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders 70-59.

The Bobcats are now 3-7 in the Southland conference and it looks as if hopes for making the post season are dwindling down with every loss. Next up for the Bobcats is a game in Beaumont on Saturday to take on Lamar. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. and you can listen to all the action on 89.9 KTSW.

I've seen this movie before. Let's see, remote college wants to build up its basketball program. The coach goes to the urban playground up North to find some big, tough fellas and brings them to a place far, far from home. That's what the visitors looked like tonight. Six players from Chicago; others from nearby cities such as Indianapolis and Gary, Ind. They manhandled the Bobcats. 'Was proud of the way we hung around tonight and even led by eight points in the second half. Ryback played his arse off. Where was John Bowman? The super frosh didn't show up. CC didn't have to guard him. He was on the court just to pass the ball and play defense. Shoot the dang ball when you're within 15 feet and no one is guarding you. Our strategy tonight seemed to be to use up the entire 35 seconds, except the taller Islanders would double the point, get a steal and a fastbreak basket. Lordy, how many turnovers did we have?
