The Women’s Basketball team faced a daunting task against the division leading Stephen F Austin Ladyjacks. After a poor road win against the Colonels the Women’s Basketball team was looking to make a statement to show the other teams in this conference that they belonged with the best.
Coming into this game the pressure was on to win every game left on the schedule. The first half started like a track meet both teams exchanging baskets after baskets. Victoria Davis and Gabriell Mattox brought their "A" game tonight versus the Ladyjacks. At one point in the game Mattox and Davis combined to score 22 of the 28 total Bobcat points. Despite the dominance by Mattox and Davis the team as a whole played exceptional defense and ran their offense to perfection. The Cats went into the half leading 33 to 31 against the Ladyjacks.
The second half was all Bobcats. The Cats shot a sizzling 75 percent from the field. This was the best I have ever seen them play. It was a passing frenzy, and on defense Stephen F Austin could not do anything right because of the stifling defense. The Cats played both sides as if it was a championship game. They hustled for every rebound and made every play they needed to make. Mattox led the team with 21 points, and right behind her Victoria Davis chipped in 19 points. The team as a whole shot 52 percent for the game, and they shutdown the Ladyjacks offense by allowing them to only shoot 37 percent from the field.
The Cats continue to improve as a team and now believe that they can hang with anyone in this conference. This team is committed to playing defense, while their offense is improving game by game. They play for each other and have great leadership in their seniors. If the Cats continue their stout defensive and improving offensive, there is no doubt that this Women’s Basketball team cannot only make into the tournament, but also can do some serious damage.
The Bobcats will look to continue their winning ways on the road when they travel to Natchitoches, LA., to take on the Northwestern State Lady Demons. The game is set to tip off at 2pm on Saturday. You can catch the game live on 89.9 KTSW the other side of radio.
